Who lives here?
Myself – Hayley, with my husband Terry, our 3 children Lucinda 18, Arabella 16 and Orlando 7 and our furbaby Spoodle – Holly.
When did you move into this house and why?
We moved into this house in October of 2015. My husband is a builder and I am obsessed with interiors, together we are serial renovators. We had finished renovating our last home and we were ready to move on.
We bought our current house because of the incredible view from our backyard. We are situated right on the Gold Coast Broadwater, it feels like we are on holiday everyday.
Have you made any changes to the home since moving in?
So many changes! We moved walls, built new ones, laid timber floors throughout the whole house, put in a completely new kitchen, painted everything inside and outside and so much more!
How would you describe your decorating style?
I don’t think I have a distinct style. I like to take a little coastal, a little country, a little farmhouse and smoosh it all together.
I love decorating with blue and white throughout the entire house, then I add pops of colour to each space to give it some personality.
I like my home to feel warm and inviting and I hope my visitors feel comfortable enough to throw their feet up on my sofa or help themselves to a drink.
If there was one thing you could change in the home what would it be?
I’d love to renovate my bathrooms and laundry. They are the only spaces that didn’t get much attention. While they are not awful, they are very vanilla.
What is your most favourite room in the house and why?
It changes depending on the season.
In winter I love the big bench seat in my dining room as the afternoon sunshine streams in and it’s a gorgeous place to relax and read with a cup of tea.
During the warmer months I love spending time in my bedroom, it gets a beautiful breeze and the views out to the water are peaceful and pretty.
What’s the best advice you could give someone looking to renovate?
My advice would be to live in the house for a while before starting anything. You need to understand how you will live in the space, how you will move around and what it will be used for. If you take your time to assess these things you’ll end up with a much more practical and functional space.
What is your best decorating hack?
Paint is the quickest and easiest way to update anything! I like to use the all-in-one spray paint that don’t require much prep or sanding. They are available in heaps of colours. You’ll be surprised how easy they are to use!
I’ve painted furniture, lamps, baskets, frames and decor items.
