Who Lives Here? Nick, Katie, Oliver (7), Gemma (6) and Wren (4.5) with Sadie Lulu (the dog), Cupcake, Daisy, Rosie and Posy (the chooks), and Goldy Henry (the everlasting goldfish).
When did you move into this house & why?
We moved in in November or December 2014. We’d been renting close by for 2 years, and decided that we wanted to settle in the area. Oliver started school in 2015 and we wanted to be settled for that.
What do you love about the area you live in?
The village lifestyle, and not having to get in the car to go everywhere. We can walk to school, the park, the village and great coffee. There are lots of young families in the area, and it’s a great place to bring up the kids. Nick rides to work, the kids and I walk to school, and I can walk in to Corner Lane coffee shop, where we all know each other by name, and they know how I like my coffee.
What was it about the house that sold you?
The house had a great feel to it, but it was ultimately the huge back yard. With 3 kids close together it’s been fabulous.
Have you made any changes since moving in?
We opened up our dining/living area and added a second storey last year.
How would you describe your decorating style?
Kid led? There is stuff all over the house that the children have brought in and refuse to let go of.
Worst Thing About the house?
The front section is quite cold in winter, and the children seem to think their own beds are lava and gravitate to ours.
What’s your favourite room in the house and why?
The kitchen/living area. It’s a great spot to sit in the sun, drinking a cup of tea and knitting or reading in winter. We both love cooking and baking as well, so we spend a lot of time in the kitchen.
Are there any other improvements you would like to make to your house in the future?
The house is done for now. The deck and backyard are the next things we need to tackle..
Katie is a keen cook and delicious smells of baking waft through the home as we enter. A Thermomix takes pride of place on the kitchen bench which is used daily on quick and easy family meals. Â Today’s delicacy was an apple, strawberry, balsamic vinegar and thyme pie!
“Here’s a link to the pie recipe Rhubarb, strawberry, balsamic and thyme pie, but I used 4 green apples instead of the rhubarb and made my own pastry using this recipe, but in the thermomix. Both recipes are from The Pie Project. Great book! I’ve made lots of pies from it.”-KATIE
